For nearly five decades, Dr. Mary Jo Podgurski has met young people and families with honest education, practical tools, and unwavering respect.
A career grounded in dignity
Dr. Mary Jo is an internationally recognized adolescent-health and sexuality educator, author, speaker, and advocate. Her work centers young people as capable, worthy individuals who deserve accurate information and trusted adults.
Through workshops, keynotes, professional trainings, and community programs, she has helped educators, caregivers, health professionals, and young people build conversations rooted in connection and care.
Dr. Mary Jo’s best job has been mother and Nonnie (grandma). Her family—La Mia Famiglia—is her greatest joy. Her connections with her students are an extension of her love for family.

Teen-led community in action
Dr. Mary Jo founded Teen Outreach in 1988. In 2008, she created Common Ground Teen Center—a teen-driven, teen-monitored space where young people are hired as staff and serve on its board.
